My journey to the Abatan River started with a short boat ride from the nearby village of Cortes. As we made our way up the river, I couldn’t help but marvel at the stunning beauty of the surrounding mangrove forest. As the sun began to set, our boat guide instructed us to turn off all lights and to keep our voices down. This was to ensure that the fireflies would not be disturbed and that we could observe their natural behavior.
