A Tour Around the Man-made Mahogany Forest
The Mahogany Forest is a man-made forest that stretches over two kilometers and covers an area of 860 hectares. It was created in the 1960s as a reforestation project by the government to help reduce soil erosion in the area. The forest is made up of towering mahogany trees that are over 30 meters tall and are densely packed together, forming a canopy that blocks out the sun’s rays, creating a serene and peaceful environment.
My day tour to the Mahogany Forest began early in the morning when my tour guide picked me up from my hotel in Tagbilaran City. The drive to the forest was about an hour, and along the way, we passed through several quaint villages, rice paddies, and scenic countryside. As we approached the forest, I could see the tall, dark trees in the distance, and my excitement began to build.
Once we arrived at the Mahogany Forest, my tour guide led me to a viewing deck that offered a stunning view of the forest. The deck was perched on a hill, and I could see the vast expanse of trees stretching out before me. The forest was so thick that it was almost impossible to see the sky, and the sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting a soft, green glow on everything.
After taking in the breathtaking view, my guide and I started walking along the forest trail. The path was well-maintained, and I could hear the sound of birds chirping and insects buzzing around us. The air was cool and refreshing, and I could smell the scent of fresh leaves and earth.
As we walked deeper into the forest, the trees became thicker, and the canopy overhead grew denser. The forest was so quiet that I could hear my own footsteps on the forest floor. The only sound was the rustling of leaves as the gentle breeze blew through the trees.
After walking for about an hour, we came across a small stream that flowed through the forest. The water was crystal clear, and I could see small fish swimming in the stream. We took a break by the stream and had some snacks and drinks that we had brought with us.
In conclusion, my day tour to the Man-made Mahogany Forest in Bohol was an unforgettable experience that left me with a profound appreciation for nature’s beauty. The forest’s tall, dense trees, tranquil surroundings, and refreshing air made for a peaceful and relaxing day trip. I would highly recommend visiting the Mahogany Forest to anyone who loves nature and wants to experience a serene and peaceful environment.
